Valtrex works by disrupting the process by which the herpes virus duplicates itself and spreads to other cells in the body. Valtrex Directions? Valtrex is an oral medication. Take all of it as directed. Do not miss scheduled doses or quit taking the prescription without the direction of your doctor. If you stop taking Valtrex too soon, you may not fully benefit from the treatment. Valtrex Side Effects? Before prescribing Valtrex, your physician needs to know if you have a medical problem causing you to have a compromised immune system. Tell him or her if you have had a bone marrow or kidney transplant, or if you have advanced HIV disease, in order to avoid potentially serious complications. Some people experience mild side effects when taking Valtrex. These include weakness, stomach pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or dizziness. Most reported that these side effects diminished once they adjusted to the medication; let your physician know if they do not. Your symptoms should improve with Valtrex therapy, but tell your physician if they do not, or if they get worse. Valtrex Warnings? Tests show that Valtrex is safe for most people. Anything Else I Should Know About Valtrex? Only healthy adults should take the prescription Valtrex. It's still possible to spread herpes even while taking Valtrex. If Valtrex is being used to treat cold sores, it should only be used for one day, and two doses at least twelve hours apart. |
