Triphasil Information
|
Triphasil Uses?
The prescription Triphasil is used to regulate menstrual cycles or to treat
acne. The pill can also be prescribed as a treatment for acne or for emergency
contraception (morning after pill). Call your doctor for more
information. It's still possible to pass sexually transmitted disease such
as HIV or gonorrhea while taking birth control pills.
Triphasil Directions?
Take Triphasil with food or immediately after a meal to prevent stomach
upset. Try to take Triphasil at the same time each day. This may help you
to remember to take it. Learn proper use of your particular brand of medication.
Follow your dosing schedule carefully. Be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist
if you have any questions. Use a supplemental form of birth control during
the first week of taking Triphasil since it takes a while to be effective.
Follow your doctor's directions exactly if Triphasil is being used as a
"morning after" pill.
Triphasil Side Effects?
Taking Triphasil may cause you to have lightheadedness, dizziness, headache,
bloating, stomach upset, or nausea. Talk to your doctor if these symptoms
persist or become bothersome. If you experience more severe side effects,
groin or calf pain, such as severe depression, sudden severe headache, chest
pain, lumps in the breast, weakness or tingling in the arms or legs, shortness
of breath, yellowing of the eyes or skin, talk to your doctor, as well as
if you notice any other side effects not listed here.
Triphasil Warnings?
If you want to safely take Triphasil, you must tell your doctor your complete
medical history. He or she must know if you or anyone in your family has
seizures, asthma, kidney disease, history of jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes)
or high blood pressure during pregnancy, diabetes, heart attack, high blood
pressure, liver heart disease, excessive weight gain or fluid retention
during menstrual cycle, blood clots, migraine headaches, stroke, breast
cancer, high blood level of cholesterol or lipids (fats), depression. Triphasil
in larger doses may cause melasma, a patchy darkening of the skin. This
condition is made worse by exposure to the sun, so limit your time in the
sun or under sun lamps. You should wear protective clothing and sunscreen
when outside. Once you stop taking birth control pills, it can sometimes
take a long time to get pregnant. You shouldn't take Triphasil if you are
pregnant or may become pregnant. Triphasil is passed in breast milk and
may be harmful to an infant, so you should not use Triphasil if you are
breast-feeding. Never smoke cigarettes while using this prescription. Doing
so may increase your risk of side effects such as strokes, high blood pressure,
heart attacks, gallbladder disease, vision problems, or liver tumors. Read
the information included with your prescription for more details, and talk
to your doctor about any questions you may have. If you are near sighted
or wear contact lenses, you may experience vision problems or develop a
lower tolerance for your lenses. See an eye doctor about this. If you are
having any type of surgery or dental surgery, let the surgeon know that
you are using Triphasil.
Triphasil Drug Interactions?
If Triphasil causes upset stomach, take it with food. Take the pill the
same time each day. This will also help you get into the habit of taking
the medication. You should read and follow the instructions for your medication.
Make sure to follow the dosing schedule. When you first begin taking Triphasil,
use a backup form of birth control until the drug becomes effective. Take
care to follow your doctor's instructions carefully if you are using this
as a morning after pill.
Triphasil Missed Dose?
If while taking Triphasil you forget to take a dose, take the medication
as soon as you remember. Your next dose should then be taken at its regularly
scheduled time. You can take more than one pill in a day using this plan.
If you forgot two doses, take both when you remember. You may also take
three pills at your next scheduled dose, or take two pills each at your
next two scheduled doses. You are more likely to ovulate, so you should
take extra precautions and use another form of birth control for seven days.
If you forgot three doses, you must throw away your current package of pills
and start a new one seven days after you took your last pill. You should
have a period during these seven days. Take a home pregnancy test if you
do not. You should then continue to use another form of birth control until
you have taken seven pills.
Triphasil Storage?
Triphasil should be stored at room temperature. Keep it away from moisture
and sunlight, and out of the reach of children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Triphasil?
Triphasil is made up of a combination of estrogen and progesterone, two
female hormones involved in ovulation and conception. The pill prevents
ovulation, but also has other effects. Triphasil thickens cervical mucus,
making it harder for sperm to enter the uterus, and prevents an egg from
attaching to the uterine wall. It prevents pregnancy.
