Retin-A Information
|
Retin-A Uses?
Retin-A is for those who suffer from acne. It works by cutting down on the
appearance of new pimples by speeding the healing of existing pimples.
Retin-A can also be used to treat skin that has been damaged
by the sun. With long term use Retin-A can reverse the signs of aging
for as long as ten years.
Some studies have also shown that using Retin-A is an effective treatment
for new stretch marks or those that are currently enlarging.
Retin-A Directions?
Apply a thin coating of Retin-A using a cotton ball. Do not use it more
than once per day, or you risk increasing the side effects of the medication.
Do not be alarmed if it first appears that your skin is worsening after
beginning treatment. Continue as directed and your skin will improve within
a month.
Wash your face with a mild cleanser and do not use any other medicated
creams or treatments unless recommended by your dermatologist. Avoid getting
Retin-A in your eyes, mouth, nose, or any open lesions. Rinse well if
this occurs.
If you know you will be spending a day outdoors and will be exposed to
a lot of sunlight, do not apply Retin-A the day before or the day after.
Use caution to avoid getting Retin-A in your nose, mouth, or eyes. This
skin is very sensitive and should be washed carefully if contact does
occur.
Retin-A Side Effects?
It's important to know that skin is very sensitive to ultraviolet and
sunlight when using Retin-A. Unprotected exposure to either will irritate
your skin and should be avoided as much as possible.
It's common when beginning treatment with Retin-A for skin to appear
worse before it improves. This is because it is rapidly reaching deep
blemishes that wouldn't surface so soon. Continue using Retin-A as directed
and you will have improved skin in less than a month.
Use protective clothing and a good sunscreen when exposure can't be avoided.
Although less pronounced, cold and wind can also irritate your skin.
Retin-A Warnings?
Talk to your doctor before using Retin-A if you are pregnant or planning
to become pregnant. While studies show that it is generally safe, some
doctors may recommend that you stop using it while pregnant. Retin-A is
flammable. Smoking while applying it is not recommended.
Retin-A Drug Interactions?
Unless advised by your dermatologist, do not use Retin-A with any other
harsh skin products that contain alcohol or work to further dry skin.
Watch especially for treatments containing resorcinol, sulfur, or salicylic
acid.
Retin-A Missed Dose?
Xenical helps its users lose weight differently than the other drugs available.
The other drugs work by effecting the central nervous system or brain
to suppress the appetite and to increase the metabolism. Xenical is a
safer option by working in the digestive system to keep fat from getting
absorbed.
Xenical attaches itself to enzymes that are in your intestinal tract
called lipases. The lipases are responsible for breaking down the fat
and helping it to be absorbed. When the Xenical attaches itself to these
enzymes, they are unable to do their job and the fat isn't broken down.
Since there is fat still in the digestive tract that isn't broken down,
your body gets rid of it like any other waste, through bowel movements.
Xenical has been shown to keep one-third of the fat in the food you eat
from being broken down or absorbed.
People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more are potential candidates
for using Xenical. There are a few exceptions, including people who suffer
from conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol,
or heart disease, than can have a BMI of 27 or higher who are eligible
to take Xenical.
Retin-A Storage?
Retin-A should be stored at room temperature and out of direct
sunlight. Do not store it where children can reach it.
Anything Else I Should Know About Retin-A?
If you have been using any exfoliates or keratolytic treatments, make
sure any rash has completely cleared up before beginning to use Retin-A.
If you are pregnant, use Retin-A only with your doctor's permission.
Using Retin-A frequently causes skin irritation, but is related to the
effectiveness of the product and will subside as your skin becomes used
to the medication.
You can continue to use makeup while treating your skin with Retin-A,
but remove all traces of it before applying the prescription.
