Prilosec Information
|
Prilosec Uses?
Prilosec is used to treat various stomach or esophagus problems related
to excess stomach acid (e.g., GERD, certain types of ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison
Syndrome, H pylori).
Prilosec Directions?
Prilosec may be taken with antacids. The pills are sustained-release, so
they have to be swallowed whole. Never break or chew the tablets, since
this will remove the lasting benefits and increase your potential for side
effects.
Prilosec Side Effects?
Occasionally Prilosec may cause stomachache, loss of appetite, headache,
diarrhea, gas, constipation, nausea, or dizziness when you first take it.
There are other possible side effects such as unusual thirst, sleep disturbances,
chest pain, change in amount of urine, nervousness, cough, back or joint
pain, or vision changes. Tell your doctor about any serious side effects
such as loss of hair, swelling of the stomach, ringing in the ears, or fatigue.
You should also report any symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as dizziness,
itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Prilosec Warnings?
To prescribe Prilosec, your doctor will ask you about all other medications
you use. Make sure to tell him or her about any ketoconazole, diazepam (Valium),
warfarin (Coumadin), ampicillin, phenytoin (Dilantin), and iron. Avoid beginning
a new medication or discontinuing an existing medication without informing
your doctor and receiving their consent. Prilosec may cause an allergic
reaction among those who are sensitive to Prilosec/Lansoprazole.
Prilosec Drug Interactions?
If you want to use Prilosec, your doctor must know about all other drugs
you use, including over the counter products. Make sure to tell them if
you are taking ampicillin, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin),
diazepam, azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), hydantoins
(e.g., phenytoin), iron supplements, sucralfate, cilostazol. Avoid beginning
a new medication or discontinuing an existing medication without informing
your doctor and receiving their consent.
Prilosec Missed Dose?
Prilosec should only be taken according to a regular dosing schedule. If
you forget a treatment, take it as soon as you remember, then return to
your normal routine. Be careful not double your dose of Prilosec.
Prilosec Storage?
Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (20 to 30 degrees
C) away from light and moisture. Keep this and all medications out of the
reach of children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Prilosec?
Prilosec decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Prilosec
is used to treat ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn),
and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production.
