OrthoTriCyclen Information
|
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Uses?
Ortho-Tricyclen pills are to be taken one time each day to prevent pregnancy.
Additionally, this prescription can help clear acne and keep skin fresh.
Women over fifteen years old may take Ortho-Tricyclen as long as they have
begun menstruating. Women with mild to moderate acne who have had no success
with topical acne treatments may also find Ortho-Tricyclen useful.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Directions?
Taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen at the same time every single day will help it be
the most effective. Link taking the pill with a daily event such as brushing
your teeth to help develop the habit. Each dose releases a low level of
hormones into your body and helps prevent pregnancy. It does this by thickening
the cervical mucus and preventing the release of eggs.
Clinical tests have also proven that Ortho Tri-Cyclen can help treat acne
by lowering the hormone that causes it. Almost nine out of ten women who
use Ortho Tri-Cyclen have improved skin.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Side Effects?
Ortho Tri-Cyclen may cause mild side effects including bleeding between
menstrual periods, nausea, breast tenderness, vomiting, or weight change.
Few women experience these symptoms, and they should fade.
Call your doctor to discuss any symptoms that persist. It's important to
contact your doctor if you have persistent or recurrent abnormal vaginal
bleeding, dizziness or fainting, difficulty wearing contact lenses, a missed
menstrual period, headache, or swelling of fingers or ankles. Seek emergency
care if you have calf/leg pain or swelling, numbness of an arm or leg, chest
pain, one-sided weakness, slurred speech, lumps in the breast, sudden severe
headache, sharp or crushing chest pain, trouble breathing or shortness of
breath, sudden shortness of breath, yellowing skin or eyes, changes in vision,
or severe stomach pain.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Warnings?
The "Pill" as it is often called is one of the safest birth control
methods available. However, it's not for everyone. If you smoke cigarettes
while using Ortho Tricyclen it can increase your risk of stroke, heart attack,
blood clots, high blood pressure, or other diseases of the heart and blood
vessels.
If you have vomiting or diarrhea for any reason, your medicine may not work
as well. In such a case it is recommended that you use an additional form
of birth control until your next period to avoid pregnancy.
Do not use Ortho Tricyclen if you are pregnant. If you suspect that you
could be pregnant, contact your doctor immediately. Ortho Tricyclen is excreted
in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you are using
Ortho Tricyclen, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks
to your baby.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Drug Interactions?
You should know that some medications could cause Ortho Tri-Cyclen to become
less effective. Drugs in this group are barbiturates (for example, phenobarbital),
drugs for epilepsy such as anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine (Tegretol®
is one brand of Ortho Tricyclen), phenytoin (Dilantin® is one brand
of Ortho Tricyclen), rifampin, phenylbutazone, and possibly certain antibiotics.
Consider alternate forms of birth control if you have to take any of these
drugs.
If you are near sighted or use contact lenses, you may experience a worsening
of your vision or intolerance to your lenses. See your eye doctor for assistance.
If you are scheduled for any type of surgery, including dental surgery,
let your doctor know that you are using Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
Do not stop or start any medications without your doctor's consent. Some
who take Ortho Tri-Cyclen may develop a condition known as melasma, or patchy
darkening of the skin. The condition is made worse by exposure to sun, so
limit exposure to sunlight or sunlamps and wear protective clothing and
sunscreen when outdoors.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Missed Dose?
Ortho Tricyclen is to be taken daily at approximately the same time. If
you miss a dose of Ortho Tricyclen, take it as soon as you remember. Take
your next dose at the regular time. This means you may take 2 doses on the
same day, but you should go at least two days being back on your regular
schedule of dosing before being sexual.
An alternative is to use another means of birth control after missing a
dose, until your next period. If you miss more than 1 dose of Ortho Tricyclen,
refer to the patient information that came with Ortho Tricyclen.
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Storage
Store Ortho Tri-Cyclen out of the reach of children. It should be kept at
room temperature.
Anything Else I Should Know About Ortho Tri-Cyclen?
Sexually transmitted diseases can be spread even if you are using Ortho
Tri-Cyclen. Contact the poison control center as soon as possible if you
believe you have overdosed on Ortho Tricyclen. Your symptoms will include
tremor, restlessness, rapid breathing, diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea,
and vomiting.
