Nordette-28 Information
|
Nordette 28 Uses?
Nordette 28, Nordette, is for the prevention of pregnancy or the regulation
of your menstrual cycle. Some types of birth control pills can also be used
to treat acne or as a morning after pill. Talk to your doctor
or pharmacist about any questions. Birth control pills will not protect
you from sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV or gonorrhea.
Nordette 28 Directions?
Enpresse should be taken with food in order to avoid an upset stomach. You
should try to take the drug at the same time each day, which will help you
develop that habit. It's important to be familiar with all the usage information
for your medication and to follow your dosing schedule. Talk to your doctor
or pharmacist about any questions you have. During the first week on Nordette 28 you must use a supplemental birth control, since it will not
be effective yet. If you are using this as a morning after pill,
follow your doctor's instructions exactly.
Nordette 28 Side Effects?
Taking Nordette may cause you to have lightheadedness, dizziness, headache,
bloating, stomach upset, or nausea. Talk to your doctor if these symptoms
persist or become bothersome. If you experience more severe side effects,
groin or calf pain, such as severe depression, sudden severe headache, chest
pain, lumps in the breast, weakness or tingling in the arms or legs, shortness
of breath, yellowing of the eyes or skin, talk to your doctor, as well as
if you notice any other side effects not listed here.
Nordette 28 Warnings?
To ensure that Nordette is right for you, your doctor needs to know if you
have a family or personal medical history of any of the following: breast
cancer, history of jaundice (yellowing skin/eyes) or high blood pressure
during pregnancy, depression, excessive weight gain or fluid retention during
menstrual cycle, kidney disease, diabetes, heart attack, high blood pressure,
seizures, asthma, liver heart disease, blood clots, migraine headaches,
stroke, or high blood level of cholesterol or lipids (fats). If you take
larger doses of Nordette, you may experience melasma, which is a patchy
darkening of the skin. It is aggravated by exposure to sunlight, so limit
your time outside or under sun lamps. Always wear sunscreen or protective
clothing. Once you stop taking birth control pills, it may take a while
to become pregnant. Do not take Nordette if you are pregnant. The medicine
is passed in breast milk, so never take the pill while you are breast-feeding.
Cigarette smoking while you are taking the pill may lead to an increased
chance of high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, strokes, vision problems,
heart attacks, or liver tumors. Please read the information provided with
your prescription and ask questions about anything you aren't sure about.
Women who wear contacts or are near sighted may experience changes in their
vision and should see their eye doctor about any problems. If you know that
you are going to have surgery, including dental surgery, make sure your
surgeon knows that you are using Nordette 28.
Nordette 28 Drug Interactions?
Before taking Enpresse, your doctor should know about all other medications
you are taking. There are drugs that may make your birth control pills less
effective, including griseofulvin, many antibiotics (e.g., penicillins,
macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfas, cephalosporins), modafinil, many seizure
medications (e.g., phenytoin, barbiturates, primidone, ), chloramphenicol,
carbamazepine), dapsone, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin), nevirapine, nelfinavir,
ritonavir, St John's wort, troglitazone. Talk to your doctor about whether
you should use additional forms of birth control while you are taking any
of these medications. Your doctor should also know if you are taking thyroid
hormone drugs, certain antidepressants (e.g., tricyclics), "blood thinners"
(anticoagulants such as warfarin), certain benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam,
chlordiazepoxide), prednisone-like drugs, beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol),
and insulin. Taking Nordette 28 can cause a change in lab tests such
as thyroid tests. Make sure that lab employees know that you use Nordette 28.
Birth control pills can make alcohol much more powerful. Do not begin taking
a new medication or stop taking any of your existing medications without
your doctor's consent.
Nordette 28 Missed Dose?
If you miss a dose while taking Nordette, read the patient information leaflet
you received with this prescription. Advice for missed doses varied depending
on the prescription you take and how many doses you have missed. Talk to
your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions.
Nordette 28 Storage?
Nordette should be stored at room temperature. Keep it away from moisture
and sunlight, and out of the reach of children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Nordette 28?
Combining Nordette with cigarette use will raise your risk of heart problems.
Don't smoke cigarettes while you are taking this prescription. Chances of
heart problems also increase in women over 35 years old, or in those who
smoke more than 15 cigarettes a day.
