Effexor XR is an antidepressant used to ease symptoms of depression leading to feelings of worthlessness, sadness, or guilt; changes in appetite; tiredness; loss of interest in daily activities; insomnia; or thoughts of death or suicide. This can also be prescribed for generalized anxiety disorder. It regulates brain chemicals that can become imbalanced, and may be prescribed for other uses as well. Effexor XR Directions? You must carefully follow all instructions while using Effexor. Drink a full glass of water when taking an Effexor dose. You may eat, but do not have to. The pills are supposed to be swallowed whole. Do not chew or crush the extended release tablets. You should consult with your physician before you quit using Effexor XR. Effexor XR Side Effects? It is possible to experience serious side effects from using Effexor XR. Get immediate medical attention for any of these side effects: an allergic reaction (closing of your throat; difficulty breathing; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); seizures; or an irregular heartbeat or severely high blood pressure (blurred vision, headache). Other side effects that are not as serious can also occur, such as drowsiness or dizziness; mild tremor, anxiety, or agitation; nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, abdominal pain, or loss of appetite or weight; headache or insomnia. You can potentially experience side effects not listed here. Speak to your doctor if there are any side effects that are persistent or bothersome. Effexor XR Warnings? If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) any time in the previous two weeks, you can not take Effexor XR. Your doctor should know if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures or epilepsy, or liver or kidney disease. If you are pregnant or nursing, do not use Effexor-XR without talking to your doctor. Effexor XR Drug Interactions? Those who have used a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the previous fourteen days should never take Effexor XR. Share your medical history with your doctor, particularly any liver or kidney disease, seizures or epilepsy, or heart disease or high blood pressure. Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant should discuss the risks and benefits of Effexor-XR with their doctor. Effexor XR Missed Dose? If you miss a Effexor XR dose, take it as soon as you remember, but return to your regular dosing after that. Never double your doses. Effexor XR Storage?
