Allegra-D Information
|
Allegra Uses?
Allegra is an antihistamine and decongestant combination that is used
to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies such as watery or itchy eyes,
runny nose, itchy throat, sneezing, and stuffy nose (nasal congestion).
Allegra Directions?
Follow the directions for using Allegra provided by your doctor. Allegra
is usually taken by mouth twice daily. SWALLOW WHOLE. Do not break, crush,
or chew before swallowing. Take Allegra on an empty stomach at least 1 hour
before or 2 hours after eating. High-fat meals may decrease the absorption
of the medicine into your bloodstream. DO NOT TAKE ANTACIDS (CONTAINING
ALUMINUM OR MAGNESIUM) within 2 hours of taking Allegra. These antacids
may decrease the absorption of Allegra. STORE Allegra at room temperature
in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. IF YOU
MISS A DOSE OF Allegra, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time
for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing
schedule. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.
Allegra Side Effects?
Patients taking Allegra sometimes experience stomach upset, nausea,
headache, trouble sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth, or nervousness. Contact
your doctor if they are persistent or troublesome. If any of these side
effects persist or are bothersome, talk to your doctor about it. Stand up
carefully after sitting or reclining. Talk to your doctor if you experience
unusually rapid or irregular heartbeat, or an uncontrollable tremor or shaking.
Other side effects are very unlikely, but notify your doctor immediately
if you seizures, mental or mood changes, or chest pain. Some people have
allergic reactions with symptoms such as rash, trouble breathing, itching,
dizziness, or swelling, and should be treated immediately. Tell your doctor
about any side effects you experience that are not listed here.
Allegra Warnings?
Take only the prescribed amount of Allegra, unless your doctor directs
you to do otherwise. Avoid using alcohol while taking Allegra since it may
cause you to experience more side effects such as drowsiness or dizziness.
Be cautious when driving or operating heavy machinery. Taking Allegra may
cause you to have false allergy test results, so ask your doctor if you
should discontinue taking Allegra before any allergy tests. Always check
with your doctor before stopping or starting any new medications, particularly
any containing antihistamines, decongestants, or diet drugs. Your pharmacist
can tell you if you can take these types of medications safely. Elderly
patients should use caution with this drug because they may be more sensitive
to it.
Do not take Allegra while pregnant unless your doctor feels that it is
necessary. Allegra is passed into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before
taking Allegra if you are nursing.
Allegra Drug Interactions?
Allegra should not be taken at the same time as any antacid that contains
magnesium or aluminum because it may cause the Allegra to be less effective.
Examples include Pepcid Complete, Rolaids, Mylanta, Maalox, Milk of Magnesia,
and others.
Allegra Missed Dose?
Do not take Allegra more often than recommended. If you miss a dose,
take it as soon as you remember, but return to your regular dosing routine
after that. Never double dose.
Allegra Storage?
Allegra is to be kept at room temperature and in a place free of moisture
and excessive sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Anything Else I Should Know About Allegra?
Allegra is an antihistamine. Antihistamines work against the naturally
occurring chemical histamine in your body. Allegra is used to prevent
sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and other allergic
symptoms.
